Hwaiting!

  • Mar. 28th, 2009 at 10:00 PM

Finally, an entry that doesn't involve some kind of FB meme. o_o

Quick Fandom updates (SPOILER WARNING):

- Noda-chan and Chiaki are finally back. I'm so excited! I want to see MegumixShinichi raburabu. xD I'm so confused about her status at the conservatory. @_@ But she got to perform! And I hope Chiaki accepts her proposal sometime soon. (Noda~~ you can't say no now!) I'm really glad Ninomiya-sensei is back and well.
- NANA D: It's so slow right now! I'm dying to know what's going to happen to poor Nana. T_T Oh Ren, how you failed at life. T_T Hachi, you're hardly any help. >_>; Too much Takumi on your mind (although I can't really blame you, no?)
- Shaman King (O_O) Horohoro, my dear Horohoro, that was such a tear-jerking chapter (at least for me) Kororo <3
- Naruto. I wonder if Pein and Naruto are going to reconcile soon. Then I bet Madara's going to come stomping in. Then you have Sasuke... Itachi did not die just to protect that loser Sasuke. >_>;;; ahhh Poor Kakashi. T.T
- Bleach. Whoa! Ulquiorra! Please live. T_T Crazy looking Ichigo, and does that mean Ishida's going to be... D:
- Bakuman (!) - Very entertaining, really light manga. Ashirogi Muto, ganbatte!
- New Tenipuri - still waiting. D: But Ryoma + Seigaku = win! Stick in Atobe somewhere. xD
- Goong - I was reading some spoilers a couple weeks ago, and it looks like things are finally starting to work out. <3 Shin x Chae. I really wish there had been a Goong season 2.
- Loveless - I'm so confused. @_@ Too few pages every chapter ;_; Soubi x Ritsuka-chan. Then what's going to happen to Yuiko and Kio? :o
- DNAngel - still on hiatus. T.T But I'm happy with how Sugisaki-sensei ended the Argentine arc.
-Fullmetal Alchemist - Hoenheim-papa + Edward + crazy stuff and a new anime coming out *o*

Jpop & Kpop & Cons & Concerts :x
- I got to see Hikki, and I managed to get Boa's autograph - sort of. :x SS501 is coming to HB, but as of right now, I have no one to go with me. Arghhh... I'm still sort of e-m-o about missing Lang Lang's concert. Morning Musume's coming to AX, and I've already pre-regged for that. I really need to find something to keep me busy this summer. Comic Con badges sure are selling out quickly. o_o And I heard An Cafe is coming to Cali for a few concerts. I wish I could see TVXQ in Japan.

Anime & Drama

I was going to catch up on Korean Boys Over Flowers, but that hasn't happened yet. =\ I suddenly really really want to watch Last Christmas again. And tomorrow's the Gundam 00 S2 Finale (can't wait!) I hope Setsuna pwns Ribbons. And I hope Tieria respawns or something. o_O

Now onto the real reason for this post:

Week(s) in review! I just have to say now that I think this has been the BEST vacation (spring break, winter break, summer break) I have had in ages and ages. <33 Overall, I mean. I still think hanging out with my cousins at Disneyland hasn't been topped (in terms of individual best days of my life xD) So much to do~ So little time to be bored~ And I got to hang out with uber awesome new friends. Tomodachi-ban ban rabu rabu. xD

And this is why I wish I could've posted things sooner. T.T *tries to recall*

I managed to get my code working sometime in the early hours of Saturday morning (Yes, I think it was around 2 AM, no?) I hadn't eaten. My friend picked up my physics quiz for me. I had been in the room since Friday morning or afternoon (I don't really remember, but we didn't have class, since it was the start of finals week). Of course, I wasn't aware that she had done so, so I panicked and e-mailed the head TA about not finding my quiz. >.< Then, since I hadn't eaten all day, I walked to the C-store... only to find that it was closed. Ahh~~ Bad tyming (as I feel like spelling it). I should eat more when I'm in Moore. I forget to eat, and then I feel absolutely pathetic. Catalina gave me a fruit rollup thing, and I can remember it tasting as good as seared tuna xD.

Then I did practically nothing until I went around to Dabney and Page, asking if people wanted to go to Cheesecake Factory. <3 It was definitely worth it. *o*

I think we went in a group of 10 (= extra gratuity), but it worked out in the end. I was ridiculously indecisive, and the person at the desk said we could split up into 2 groups of 5, but I guess it wouldn't be as fun. T.T So she said we could come back in an hour and she would keep our reservation.

First, we went clothing shopping. H&M had this really cute hairband (headband? what are they called?)... Frilly black ribbon. You know, gothic lolita-esque. Note to self: look for a tie on Soompi. xD

Then Forever21... Oh, that's what I wanted to show them. My hat. :o Gone With the Wind~~~

Random digression: KCET Vienna performance. I want to go! *O*

Vienna, all of Japan, Seoul, Aussieland, and somewhere good to see the aurora borealis. Must visit. <3

/digression

I had seared tuna (ahi tuna salad or something). I love their sauce. Really, in that case, the sauce made all the difference. Then I ordered a $25 cheesecake. :x In the end, I spent around $46 on food that night. x_x We walked back, got Jamba Juice (Mango-a-go-go mmm <3), wandered around Paseo, and... most everyone was too full to come and eat cheesecake. Nooo~~ But Brian and Wubing came. xD

Gundams and figures and playing tennis with flat tennis balls (or, in my case, failing at tennis)...

T-Minus 10 Days Until Move-In

  • Sep. 11th, 2008 at 11:59 PM

To celebrate the occasion, version 2 of my Loveless(?)-themed Livejournal, Life in Progress (thanks [info]jaidesu) is now officially online. Today also marks the 7th anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks, but to keep this on a more positive note, here's a little tribute to the 1940s' Americana and to the unconquerable American spirit.

[info]jaidesu  linked me to this photograph in one of our AIM conversations, and I thought it would make a wonderful addition to this entry. The photo was taken by Alfred Eisenstaedt on V-J Day, which marked the end of World War II.

Although I can't say I'm particularly attached to modern American culture (pop culture or whatever you choose to call it), I can say that I love American history and everything that can be identified with the Americana of the early- to mid- 1900s (think Norman Rockwell, the still-flourishing Broadway, the transition from Vaudeville to cinema with the likes of Fred Astaire and Judy Garland, the emergence of television sitcoms like I Love Lucy, etc.).

There's one more thing I'd like to celebrate (maybe something trivial, perhaps, but it's still special to me). Although it's already the 12th of September in Japan, it's still September 11th here. That means today's the 6th anniversary of Tackey & Tsubasa's debut! Although I've never participated in any fan projects, and it's not very likely that I'll be doing so in the near future, I'd still like to give a little personal shoutout to my favorite Jpop duo (an annual follow-up to this post). Even if nobody reads this entry, I'd still like to say congratulations for a great 6 years (and even more as juniors) together. タッキー&翼おめでとうございます。

Allowing Takki and Tsubasa to debut as a duo instead of as solo artists was probably the only crazy decision by Johnny Kitagawa that I wholeheartedly support. (No, I do not like the fact that 4TOPS was disbanded so Yamapi could join NEWS, even though Toma is becoming quite popular as a J-dorama actor. What about Kazepon and Hasejun? I also absolutely hate the fact that Ya-Ya-yah was disbanded so Yabu and Hikaru could join Hey! Say! JUMP. No, I haven't listened to any of HSJ singles. I hope Taiyou is doing well, and I hope Shoon can debut with his brother Reon in the near future.)

Takki and Tsubasa, their "One Day, One Dream" single, and Inuyasha introduced me to the world of Jyanni's Entertainment and, eventually, mainstream Jpop, Kpop, and Asian dramas.  is one of the most repeated songs on my playlist.

While I was going through boxes of old paper, I actually found the picture of Tsubasa that I printed out and brought to school one day. All of my junior high school friends thought he was a girl! I guess I'll mention Furuba Forums here too, because, thanks to the incredible people there, the fandom grew on me. During my trip to San Francisco late August before my junior year, I bought the limited edition 2wenty 2wo album. Even if I did pay a high premium for it, I was happy. The songs in the album were the first T&T songs I had ever listened to, so, I had made it my mission to find the album. I used to spend hours watching Youtube videos of their junior days, performances, and appearances on Shounen Club. They were such perfect and adorable leading juniors too! Incidently, a video from their debut introduced me to Yamapi. The rest of NEWS, KAT-TUN, Ya-Ya-yah, and Toma soon followed.

Even though they've been focusing more on their solo careers recently, even though they aren't as popular as they have been in the past (in comparison to other newer groups), and even though Tsu-chan cut his hair and took on a more umm... manly? appearance (it's grown out again, last I saw), I still love Takki and Tsubasa. Takki's been growing a lot on me, and he's so cute! Tsubasa is still JE's dancing king in my book. Keep on shining you guys! Thanks for introducing me to such a wonderful fandom, and I hope you'll continue to be successful and win over more fans.

Love,

Just another fangirl.

I started Shiroi Kaisou (now White Reflections) on December 24, 2004. It was Ryoma's birthday (Ryoma from Prince of Tennis fame). That's why I wanted to finish this new layout on Takki and Tsubasa's anniversary. I had been meaning to finish this layout before college started, since I've had this (or a) blog since high school started, and college would be like a second chapter in the life of this blog. Why not commemorate this transition to college life with a new layout?

A Little about the Layout

The theme of this layout is fandom. (It's pink because pink is my favorite color, and I haven't used it in a while.) I finally caught up with the most recent chapters of Loveless, and I have to say that, even though it is a shounen-ai manga, I am in love with Ritsuka and Soubi. I think I was in the same mood when I made my first layout *laugh*.

I've been in somewhat of a layout drought for a long time, so I was happy that my Daisuke and Ritsuka icons transformed into a complete LJ layout. An LJ layout has been on my agenda all summer, but I've gotten nowhere until now.

I decided to break my fandoms into four and a half categories: manga, dramas, anime, Asian pop, and real life (which isn't really a fandom, but I guess that represents everything that I blog about pertaining to school, friends, and other, more real, fandoms like the Federer and Nadal tennis rivalry, Final Fantasy, Legend of Zelda, and other video games, my random collections, pre-contemporary music, black & white sitcoms, and classic movies). Included in the banner, are five "icons" that represent each. I started reading DNAngel again, Code Geass is the only anime I'm currently watching, TVXQ is my main Asian pop interest at the moment, Nodame Cantabile is one of my favorite dramas (and one of my favorite manga), and I'm about to start freshman year at Caltech (hence, the calculus, even though that photograph was taken at MIT). I came up with a few really horrible catch phrases, but some people think they're cute, so, unless you guys can think of anything better, I guess I'll keep them. "I like what I like, so there!" is just the english translation of Suki na mono wa suki dakara shouganai, which is the title for another shounen-ai series I liked. I have no idea why I like referencing shounen-ai in my titles and layouts. Shounen-ai is only one of the many genres of animanga that I like (and not what I usually read/watch).

I wonder if the web 2.0 craze is subsiding, becuase I have a problem with adapting my style to fit in. It just never works, so I decided I wouldn't try this time. Let's just say I'm satisfied with the way the layout turned out.

I reworked the CSS code written by the maintainer of [info]thefulcrum so I wouldn't have to go through the trouble of looking up all of the theme layer classes and writing my own code. Switching to S2 after coding for S1 is a pain in the ***, and even modifying the CSS got really annoying at times. I blame it in part on compatibility issues. I shall now declare that I only finally downloaded Firefox to use on my laptop so I could do some browser compatibility checks. I'll also be using it more now.

In terms of organization, I thought it'd be a little easier for myself if I included all of the sites I visit most often at the top of the journal (I love sticky posts!). Since I'm normally terrible at keeping track of things, and nothing I touch ever stays organized, I'm trying a new tag system. It'll make posts easier to find, and I've created 10 main categories (found below).

From now on, I want to try to post an image in every entry  (idea stolen from [info]julyeighth).
Today's Entry
  1. I'm having my first piano lesson since last year April on Sunday. It's just too hard for me to learn a piece without some guidance. They're expecting Mac notebook updates on October 14th. *crosses fingers* I hope this rumor is true, and I hope it's not just some mediocre update, but instead a complete redesign.
  2. This is a very interesting story, and if you have time and would like to read about "an Ivy League fraud," you'll see that this would definitely make for a good book.
  3. The previous article prompted me to read this Wiki entry and this Wiki entry. I wish Caltech had "secret societies." George W. Bush, unable to decide, was temporarily called Temporary, and the name was never changed. I thought that was funny.
  4. The Large Hadron Collider went online on the 10th. I'm really excited for what's planned later on this year. A black hole is not going to destroy the world, contrary to semi-popular belief. This rap may be of some interest.
  5. Target is featuring Domo in its Halloween collection. Traditional animation techniques like stop-motion and even Miyazaki's continued use of cels is quite remarkable. The making-of clip and the Target episode are interesting and cute respectively.
  6. In the world of technology, this is a sweet phone, and I really want this mouse.
  7. And finally, I want this Wang Lee Hom voice clip to be my cell phone wake-up alarm and Zetsubou's "meru meru" to be my ring tone.

Another pleasant surprise?

Receiving a package in the mail can be quite exciting, especially when you don't know anything about it beforehand. Maybe it contains a new CD that you ordered or some elusive collector's item that you finally found on the Internet one day. Who knows? It might even contain some Harry-Potter-like book being delivered on the day of its release (even though you didn't pay the extra money for expedited shipping). Well, what if it was something completely unexpected? What if you had somehow won a diamond tennis bracelet (I'm sure the package would have been insured)? Or some anonymous stranger had sent you a large stuffed animal or a bouquet of flowers (kind of creepy, I admit)?

My grandma told me that a package was delivered to me. At first, I thought maybe she had misread the label, since my mom's been waiting for a book she ordered to arrive. Then I looked at the mailing labels. :D LOL! Nick! I got a package delivered from Berkeley, California. Did this have anything to do with his e-mail? He was wondering why he had my home address, but not my cell number. I gave him my cell number when we went to City Walk last year (or maybe it was the year before?), but I don't think I ever got his, and I guess he didn't transfer his contacts onto his iPhone. Oh well. Ah, he's such a cool person to be around. Funfunfun~

As for the contents of the package? Well, I had asked him way back in April if he could get my a Cal sweatshirt. I still want one. ._.; I wish I had gone to CalDay just to buy one (and take a side trip to Japantown). Of course, it wasn't a sweatshirt (hah!). Is it considered a polo shirt? Early (or late) birthday present. *dies*

It's kind of hilarious. Completely unexpected. Thanks Nick!

lol!

[July 10, 2008 10 PM]

Where should I start? I wasn't really looking forward to the trip. I wasn't expecting much either, probably because my summer after senior year had a rather shaky start. There are certain things I want to remember and others that I want to forget. Let's just say that writing this entry oh-so-many-days-later doesn't help.

I bet no one's going to read these 2 posts, and the things I forgot to mention I've mentioned on AIM, in Facebook posts, or in e-mails, so at least for the time being, I'm done?

[July 12, 2008 4 AM]

In other news, this entry was so long that I had to break it into 2 separate parts. D:

HB.

  • May. 18th, 2008 at 3:00 PM

I should have gotten better seats. *loser*

The concert was fun~ All the random swag. I haaad to get a 3-set lightstick this year. >_o Was not gonna just get yellow again. D:

I liked Super Junior T's performance this year more than I liked Super Junior's performance last year. :o

I still can't tell who was live and who wasn't. >.<

I LOVED FLY TO THE SKY. Like always. They have such awesome ballads. The MC's didn't talk much this year. Aww. Brian Joo = <3.

Junsu sang the Korean anthem. That was so cool! I recorded most of it, but I didn't bring the DSLR, so quality sucks for video + pictures (and I ran out of memory). D:

I really liked Son Ho Young from g.o.d. I was sooo totally jumping when he said to jump. *waved lightstick around like crazy. xD* I hit the guy in front of me on accident. SO TIRING. Camera + binoculars + lightstick + cell phone. x_x That guy and his family kept on blocking my view though. =.= Sucks being short.

And Minwoo was pretty cool~ Although I like Shin Hye Sung more.

Same goes for SG Wannabe. srsly. These boybands come up with the weirdest names ever. ._. And what's up with the member change?

Then you have TVXQ. You could barely hear them singing. LOL...

Crazy fangirls. They weren't all too successful with the whole American Red Sea Project... *sweatdrop*

Balloons is such a fun song.

+ fireworks.

One of my friends got free tickets. Then he went with my other friend, who's a rabid SNSD fan (I didn't really care much for Girls' Generation...)... Somehow, they managed to get front row tickets for the latter half of the concert. D: *envy*

I wish I brought my good camera. Ughh!

So afterwards, we walked down to the Kodak Theater to get picked up (insanneee traffic) :o

WEIRD CREEPY PEOPLE ALERT.

Some guy came up to me and asked if I lived nearby... then he asked where the nearest bar was located. I guess he assumed we were old enough because of curfew? LOL. That was around midnight... (my keyboard's messed up)

Some other guys kept on shouting remarks about some girl's underwear... because she was wearing a really tight dress.

Some other guy with the scariest face ever just stared at us. D:

And then these guys walking in front of us would turn around and look at us every so often.

We walked down to the Chinese Theatre. John Wayne and Deborah Kerr. Yeaah. I saw Debbie Reynolds and Doris Day stars. So many more. So cool! I need to spend a day there.

EVERYONE WAS IN RED. YES. TVXQ.

EVERYONE WAS LIKE. NOT ASIAN. IT WAS SO WEIRD. It's all because of TVXQ, right? Dong BANG Shin Ki. LOLZ.

Free stuff free stuff.

$4 drinks. TOO HOT. *melt* I feel like going swimming sometime. Maybe one day, I'll learn how to freestyle. lol~!!

Yeah, I bought a really neat looking qi pao when I went to Chinatown. $20. :o I like it. Haha. And here I've been looking for the past year or more. :o Senior project!

*hugs Lisa*

Prefrosh Weekend Updates? Or w/e

  • Apr. 6th, 2008 at 11:36 PM

Wow. I got to registration at around 1:10 PM Thursday. I took the day off from school (was originally going to go) because

1. I didn't want to do homework.
2. I didn't do any homework on Wednesday.
3. I was coming down with a cold?

'Nywho, my dad dropped me off at Steele House for registration. :o I went up and got my packet (I was a actually a bit afraid that I wouldn't be on their list of attendees, despite having already received a confirmation e-mail. Don't ask why. I'm paranoid like that. -.- Maybe I wasn't accepted in the first place. =_=) So, I was totally eyeing that Caltech Prefrosh Weekend pen (you know how much I like swag?)... but I didn't get one (until later)... My dad went to find parking, and err one of the Techers? xD showed me what I should do. :o The shirts weren't really umm... eye-catchy this year. :x I hate writing on stuff, so even though they told me to fill out my name, hobbies, major, etc. (whatever it was), I just left without doing that. *meep*

I was escorted to Lloyd, where I was staying for the weekend (she was really nice!). I was actually a bit surprised at how old everything was (lol?)... The weather sucked too. Grr! It went from being really nice to being cool and cloudy. =_= Okay okay, back to the story xP... Caltech has cool locks (or umm... not locks, but ehh whatever). So my escort helped me carry things up the stairs (yes, I typed stares) annd err... My host was at class, but she left me a really welcoming message on her whiteboard (everyone has one?). Ironically, her roommate forgot it was April 3, and she was sleeping aha. We ended up talking for a bit. I got to meet the producer for one of the One-Act Theatre performances (although I think I ended up missing her performance, because it was really getting too cold for me to take). =\ Well, my host is an EECS major. :o Annd my host's roommate is a math major. They're both really cool! We talked about random things (yes, really random).

Most of the houses (hovses?) at Caltech are umm... highly decorated? Practically every wall in Lloyd was covered with some sort of (funky) mural or another. o_o It was kind of messy... or umm... really messy... Well, the dorm I was staying at had a bunk bed (?) buut both beds were on top? so it stretched the width of the room. I guess that's pretty customary. I slept (or umm... sat) on the couch, even though I brought a sleeping bag. Couch = soft/comfy = Angie likes. There was a window to Olive Walk, so I saw the fireworks there on the last night. There are soo many shelves, and a random sink. xP (the way everything's set up reminds me of a storage room... o_O)...

My friend was supposed to show up. ._. So, I took a walk back to registration (my host's roommate had a ton of work to do - Wow! When I left Sunday morning, she was just getting ready to sleep @_@). Err... and he arrived right about then... But then I just wandered around, feeling quite lost, before going back to the dorm and meeting my host.

I went to the bookstore with my friend... but we didn't buy anything... and then we went to Olive Walk, because a lot of people were hanging out there? aha... and we saw my friend's friend from Olin... annnd for the longest time, I didn't really talk to him, or I did, but umm... not in the more care-free way I would talk to a close friend, I guess? Formal? Maybe... We just stood around for a long time...

And they started throwing water balloons at us. I think I was an unlucky half of a target. =_=

Then my friend left to hang out with one of his Caltech friends... and my friend's friend and I decided to go to the bookstore... 'cept we met the friend of my friend's friend (I should just give these people names?), and we wandered back to registration, where I got a packet of Skittles and a pen. Then onto the orientation-type presentation. There was a jazz band playing. They were pretty good. It wasn't the most memorable presentation... (presentations are usually like that?), and my friend's friend dozed off? xD

Dinner was... err... ahhh... uhhh... interesting. Expected, but unexpected. I knew they did crazy things at dinner... But I came kind of late with my host... annnd I got a slice of cheesecake... annnd... some kind of funky mushroom and beef (my host became a vegetarian after she came to Caltech...)... yeaah... Even though Caltech and JPL are managed by the same dining service, there seems to be a huge discrepancy in the quality of the food. 'Anywho... I ate maybe 3/4 of the mushroom when they unveiled their... crazy looking fort. o_O Again, your typical LA art? ... and started throwing bread and waterballoons and the whatnot. o_O I chose a very bad place to sit... My food didn't survive the war (poor cheesecake)... People seriously have maybe 15 minutes max. to finish all the food they can eat... x_x (unless you want to get some more after the "festivities"...) It was raining water and bread... and people had their waterguns (my host and her roommate aren't that into this kind of craziness) annd umm... yeahh... Caltech people seemed pretty crazy, but maybe because it was just Prefrosh Weekend... or maybe that's one of their only means to... uhh... have fun? (I hope not. *sweatdrop*). All in all, I thought thet dinner was pretty cool.

I went back to the dorm and talked with my host and her roommate some more. Haha, we ended up looking for dresses online. Then my host went off to a tango class (turns out it's going to start next week), and I stayed a bit more to chat. My friend convinced me to check out some of the events (I'm not one to take the iniative... in an event like this...)... And I think walking to Avery was one of the loneliest journeys (?) I've ever experienced? So few people! And it was dark, and I wasn't sure if I was going in the right direction. D:

Oh, by the way, Stephen Hawking was on campus. I didn't see him. He's giving a lecture this Wednesday (when a friend and I fly out to Boston for MIT's CPW n_n), so I guess I'm a bit disappointed that I missed him... one guy saw him. :o or so he said (but who am I to not believe him?)...

And Ricketts had a goat. Goat cries.

Okay, back to Avery. They were having a DDR + karaoke-isc event... The DDR area smelled like trash. x__x The karaoke event was... who knew there was a karaoke game? I expected one of those nifty Asian karaoke machines *disappointment*. Watching people DDR was pretty cool (Bemani?)... It's kinda funny watching nerdy guys DDR... (or maybe because half the time I watched, "Wsuh" was DDRing? xP)... Yeah, inside joke? Or not...

There was one Prefrosh girl who was really good! o_o She was a bit more... outgoing than I expected? Aha... too much so to intimidate me. ^^; Yeah, I didn't really make too many new friends. *disappointed*

My friend told me my other friend was on campus. :o I was expecting him to come on Friday, actually... and I was just talking to him on AIM! Gosh, I get everything wrong. ^^;

Well, I really wanted to see my friend's friend DDR, because I heard he was amazing. He was pretty good :o My other friend Jordy's pretty good too, but I haven't seen him DDR since sophomore year.

And randomly, I see a green light appear out of no where annd O_O HE IS HERE. I totally didn't believe my other friend. Aha.

*hug*

Tho, the next thing I knew, they disappeared. =_= So after a while, I aksed one of the guys I met if he wanted to go outside and check out other stuff. =\ We bumped into another guy, who was going tunneling... and since none of us really had a clear idea of what we were going to do....... I dunno. He was a bit annoying. I'm dead serious. If you ever think I start talking too much, or if you ever think I'm just plain annoying, tell me please? Ughh... You feel really bad if you leave someone behind, buuut just listening to someone go on and on when all you want to do is enjoy the peaceful atmosphere is just a bit... bleehh... I guess I sound mean. >.<

'Nywho, we bumped into my 2 friends again... and went to the extra dry Thursday Night Drinking. I had grape juice! Banzai!

Then we walked around a lot. It would've been better if my feet didn't feel like they were on fire. =_= Wrong time to decide to wear new shoes, no?

My nose was also running? (wrong word? or word form? I can't think...), although it wasn't quite as bad...

We made a stop back to the dorm, so I could get another jacket on (way too cold >.<)... annnd they totally read my prefrosh form thing D: Yep yep. A bunch of the prefrosh went to play capture the flag.

We went tunneling with my friend's friend and co. That was seriously the most amazing/thrilling experience I've had in a long time. o_o It was soo hot! (I just had to put on that extra jacket), but at points, it was so cold! Yes, yes, undergorund tunnels with random "art" and "poetry," amidst pipes and wires and lights and some pitch black tunnels and freakish things and broken CRT monitors and more "art" and wooden boards and really steep ladder climbs... and WOOOW a 3D maze they used for ditch day. :o Amazing! Rooftop climbing and Angie!afraidofheigths!=true *dies* How many times did I feel like I was about to fall off the ladders? It's all in good fun. No, it isn't really supposed to be allowed, but everyone does it?

So many stories attached to it all~

The one guy wanted to keep on going. I don't think I could have taken it any more. -.- I think we finished tunneling at about 2:30. I slept at around 3 AM? People were still playing capture the flag at 2...

Next day~ I went to check out the kinematics + robotics class with my friend. I wish I had no nose (figuratively, really)... It didn't seem too bad, granted I couldn't understand much ._.;; But the professor (you don't call people teachers any more, right? aha) seemed really nice! And I'm sure that if I had some more background, I could understand a lot more. Hwaiting!

Then afterwards, we went to check out a physics roundtable, although the presenter spent most of his time talking about core classes instead. My stomach growled, so afterwards, we went to lunch. Ahh~ I felt horrible for leaving my friend. annd I ended up tagging along with the guy in front of me in line. He was from Iowa! (and he left Saturday morning, as opposed to Sunday)... and I think he's definitely going to Caltech (majoring in biology?)...

On the up side, I saw (err... I fail at life?) Shotaro Makisumi. :o Or rather, he was a couple of places behind me in the lunch line and he sat across from my Iowa friend and me during lunch. Uwah~ Even though I can't solve a Rubik's Cube... One very very very amazing guy (prefrosh too! :o) USAMO? :O Annnd I thought he was very fashionable.

Enough of that. xP

I am a slow eater. My host found me, and we chatted some more. Then my Iowa friend and I went to the gym. o_o We just looked around (tennis! swimming! etc. etc.) annd went to Milikan. The library is so cool! The view of the campus from the 9th floor is gorgeous~ (there's a hidden camera...........)... annd most of the book shelves are... umm... *press button --> bookshelf moves O_O*

Then we sat in on a SURF presentation~ definitely a plus if you go to Caltech~ Research as an undergrad! although MIT... well... we'll see this week. :P

And my friend joined us :3

Lab tour after. =_= Should have chosen a bio/chem lab... because as great as the DARPA challenges are... Caltech doesn't do very well... and looking at a car that isn't doing anything spectacular at the moment/looking at polygons isn't that eye-catching? So we left before the presentation finished~ Went to the gym again... went to Fleming (yes, one M; I'll remember that...) My other friend and my friend's friend, who I will now refer to as my friend, were playing Brawl before that, but uhh... when we got there, they had left for the soccer field. =_= Wild goose chase? We ran and caught up to them... And my friend played soccer for a bit...

Then we went to Milikan again. My other 2 friends ditched us. D: They ditched us a lot. ~_~;; Stop with the random jokes, please. T_T;

Then we went back to Fleming. I mostly watched them play Brawl... annd then we went to dinner?

Dinner was a shock. I had dinner at Ricketts... and seriously, I completely freaked out. When we got there, they were finishing up their uhh announcement of rules... so I guess I missed the point of the whole prefrosh sit at places where plates are turned over thing... and I sat at a place with a regularly oriented plate, so the house members got mad at me... and I asked if I could sit across from me, soo I crawled over... =_= (I think I touched bubble gum again?! *hates self*) and some girl came to the place and said FUCK YOU THIS IS MY SEAT. So I kind of died and felt like I wanted to cry. =_= And then they were like... I dunno... bears... taking all the food before I even realized it. o_O Freaked me out so much. srsly. I asked one guy to pass over the coke (which turned out to be diet, so I wanted to... well yeah, I hate diet coke)... and then they started throwing meat, which totally got all over me and my prefrosh booklet... and then they threw ice cream (did I mention they kept on shouting ANNOUNCEMENTS at the Lloyd dinner?)... and one hit the chandelier above me... sooo I freaked out... annd I had some leftover vegetables... annd like part of an ice cream... and then they started floating people. =_= The guy next to me got floated. I should have moved away. They dumped people's drinks into a pitcher and poured it all over him ehhh and I got some of it on me too. NASTY. Then the next thing I knew, dinner was over. They got mad at us for trying to leave? And people were sling shotting something or anothers over to the next house...

Total shock? I started crying. ._. I don't know how my friends could have enjoyed that. >_>;

Yep. I went to change. Then err... I guess we all went to play Brawl. I was bored out of my mind watching my friends play. As much as I love video games... >_>;;;;;;;;;;

Yeaah... So my friend and I left to play mini golf. I think Ruddock left the best impression on me. :D (I guess I like Avery, because it's new...)... But Ruddock had anime-isc murals? And the people there are wonderful. :P

So yeah yeah... I suck at mini golfing. Ahahaha.... But they had some crazy obstacles. I wish I had my camera with me. >.< They filled up a dorm room (or what room was it?) with water and people were swimming in it. O_O They had another room... that was completely dark, 'cept the course was glow-in-the-dark. :O Annd then they had this aweeesome wooden pinball thing that you put your golf ball into. xDDD annd sling shot! :o I totally missed. I hope I didn't hurt anyone. x_x

Uhhh then milkshake afterwards. :3

I guess afterwards, my friends, who joined us later? went back to play Brawl and we joined them? I don't quite remember. -.- I think I started feeling pretty terrible around then, and I was so sleepy. x_x I wanted to go to Casino Night, but part of me just didn't feel like getting up. ~_~;

Then my friend had to go home~ so I followed him. I went back to my dorm~ annd my host introduced me to her boyfriend (who was from Ricketts and was surprised I didn't enjoy dinner aha ^^;; but he was really nice annd I think he's going to Yuri's night :o) annd um... on my way out~ my friend was writing on the whiteboard.

Haha, it's late tonight anyways, so hmm~ *wonders if you'll actually read this* Buuut if you do, good night to you too :3

/shoutout

Then I talked with my friends for a bit... Wsuh and random Marth and plastic surgery and the random realization that there was a girl in the room...

oh boy...

It was pretty late when I got back. I fell asleep in a sitting position. Ow?

Then I went to breakfast on Saturday with my... Olin? (differentiate?) friend because my other friend hadn't woken up. Uhh... we listened in on an exchange program presentation, before proceeding to admissions and getting a few extra folders... then I went to the store, and bought an MIT prank shirt "replica" haha... and err... went back to the dorm... and went to Pasadena.

We walked around a lot. My feet started hurting. We ate at Noodle World. It smelled like the sewer... and the food was over-priced, and I couldn't taste anything... annnnd... it was weird. (not exactly sure how clean that place was x_x). I wanted to go to the Cheesecake Factory. Oh well. I tried the mango flavor at Jamba Juice! Next time, I'll try pineapple.

We walked around some more. I was totally unproductive...

We came back around 2. I went to the dorm. I chatted online for a bit, and then I found myself waking up at around 5. I missed most of the club fair. GAH. I saw the Fuild Dynamics err "table"? annd the rubik's cube club (uwah, he was there!)... and the anime club... maybe 'cause they're just all tables... I'm hoping the MIT anime club will have some showing or something. I should check. Did I mention that Caltech's guest wireless was kinda meh? I guess that's why it's guest. JPL's guest wireless was better. D:

And DDR... yeah... DDR... Oh, the dunk tank~

Then I had In-n-Out. I didn't eat much at Caltech (I forgot to mention I did get some extra food after the Ricketts fiasco... but it wasn't very good. =.=), annd I wish I went for seconds... 'cause I had a cheeseburger, and I normally get a double-doubt with fries (when I've been eating normally?)...

Hmm... then more DDR... Then One-Act Theatre. I already mentioned it was cold. I was sitting on wet grass. I couldn't see anything, because I was a n00b, and I didn't feel like moving up. 2 friends kept on cracking annoying jokes...

I didn't stay for all of it. One friend went back to DDRing. My other friend... spent an hour on my laptop... chatting. =_=

I was bored out of my mind.

Then I went to my room, chatted, checked what I had to do for homework... I didn't feel like going back outside. I felt really sick and tired... I watched the fireworks. I wanted to go to that other event what with the smash things and thte LN2 ice cream... but I just didn't feel like going out. I fell asleep with my computer on my lap... and I woke up at 2 some. My host stayed up all night. I left at about 8:30, got home, and slept.

Yep.

I feel a lot better than I did an hour and some more ago, when I decided I'd finish this entry. :o Hopefully, that means my cold will be gone by Wednesday. Forget about school! MIT > school.

I still think I like MIT more, but we'll see.

I hate this. Ugh.

Pleasant and unpleasant surprises?

  • Apr. 2nd, 2008 at 11:30 PM

Okay, maybe not.

Yesterday, I went to sleep with a headache. Today, I woke up to a sore throat. Now, my nose is stuffy. I was feeling really cold during the afternoon, but I took a Tylenol, and I think that helped.

How did I manage to get sick AGAIN?! Hopefully, I'll feel better by tomorrow.

That was the unpleasant surprise.

Today, we had a new sub for English. She's going to be our long-term sub, and she seems pretty nice/fun/enthusiastic. I smell a lot of busy work. In econ, instead of taking notes, he gave us handouts and lectured us. The class is right after lunch, and it's totally sleep inducing. I leaned on the whiteboard, and my eyes just didn't want to open again. I hate that feeling! You hear your teacher talking, but you just can't look. :x

Then in 7th period, I stayed at the office, and fell asleep doing bio homework. My friends put a book in front of me to ward off any office personnel... aha ._. The secretary gets mad at people who sleep in the office. -.-

I have so much homework/many tests due on Tuesday and Wednesday. >.<

Yesterday, my friend IMed me, saying that our friend was going to go over to his house, but he wanted to Brawl. So so so~ I was completely okay with them coming over to my house! But we never confirmed anything.

I was wondering if they would, so I turned my cell phone on after school. 2 stops away from my stop, my friend calls, saying that they'll see me in a few minutes. O_O Turns out they knocked on the door, but my grandma thought they were strangers and didn't let them in. Then they went to a liquor store and bought food?

I hope they didn't have to wait too long. =\

'Nywho, we played Brawl. I failed miserably, so then they played by themselves. We had ice cream! and lots of tea! And I started feeling worse around then (I was doing bio notes at that time)... bleh. I think/hope I'll feel better tomorrow.

It was exciting! And fun! Quite a refreshing change~ because I had finished most of the homework due tomorrow. Haha. It felt like that time we went to Karo's house for the project.

My parents started asking a lot of questions about Japan...

We DDRed. *failure^2*

Annnd they went home at 11.

Description does little justice to the awesomeness that was this afternoon/tonight!

I'm not coming to school tomorrow.

More time to rest up a bit.

It's an odd day anyways.

*laugh*

I haven't had SO MUCH FUN in such a long while.

Ironically, it was at a competition. I had about one day's preparation for it, so I was nervous. The events are interesting and varied. I wish I could try again next year, because I now know what to expect. =\ It's a shame that no one bothered putting much effort into studying, but I guess they tried their best at the events. One of my friends said the chemistry lab was easy. She just forgot some of the concepts/hadn't learned them. .__.;

The awards ceremony was... part of me wonders why I went. I guess I wanted to see what it was like. xP My friend and I got 5th in cell biology, and that was the only event for which our team received some medal. *meep* 6/34 teams should receive medals for each event. That's a high probability! And not to win anything is should shameful. -_-; I would have been upset at myself if I hadn't gotten anything, but I'm still disappointed it was 5th for cell bio. >_>;

I wish I had tried chemistry and physics. Those ought to be my best subjects. Other people wanted those events, so I relented. One person told me the day before the event that she couldn't make it. Just great.

I guess it was okay, since I studied roughly 2 hours for cell biology. I wonder how many questions we got wrong. o_o I had my friend change a lot of answers last minute. Maybe it would've been better if I hadn't said anything. @_@;

I studied quite a bit more for astronomy. It was fun. It was unfair that they gave half of the room 5 minutes less time. o_o The door was closed! Ugh!

I guess I should be happy that everyone who showed up did. ^^; The time we spent chatting in between events was nice too.

I saw so many of my JPL friends at the competition. It was quite a wonderful surprise!

'Nywho. We went ice skating afterwards. I wanted to go to this one Chinese restaurant, but we would have been late for ice skating, so we ended up going to In N Out. I think I had too many of their hamburgers during build season.

My friend brought his giftcards, so we spent them all, and I paid him back. I still owe people money. Ahh!

Ice skating was fun. I can finally skate faster! My dad still says I look like an old grandma skating. (lol)

I *wish* I hadn't fallen backwards that one time, because... now I can't quite sit down without hurting. Haha. *uber sweatdrop* I think I would have preferred a bruised knee.

It's always nice to skate with friends, ya know? That way, you don't feel lonely on the ice. Although skating next to a friend can be... challenging, because when one person falls, the other one falls too (or comes really close to falling). Unless, of course, one of us really knows how to skate. Then that's a totally different story.

But we're learning! ^_^

+LA Regionals
+Lots of Homework

- This week.

I tend not to remember too much from my junior high school days. I was the youngest in my class in 5th grade. I went to a different middle school before that. I liked my teachers. I remember the very first time we had choir auditions. It wasn't really an audition, but I was too timid to volunteer to sing at first. Since 2nd grade, I had always had solos are large roles in school plays. I can't believe I was ever so good at memorizing lines. Anyways, I sang. In high school, I'm only really known for my nerdiness (although I wonder how nerdy I am). I'm known for being a perfectionist, and in general, I'm always the person that others have to compete against to get the highest score. In junior high, my classmates and my friends... seemed to be a better community. Everyone liked each other, for the most part. Sure, I wanted to be the valedictorian, and in the end, I did get my wish, but there was more of a nature of friendly competition. I really admired my friends. I had fun (admittedly, I probably still don't like English as much as I should because of the gruelling... um... workload that I had in my junior high English class). Well, enough of that. I actually remember my first day of school. One of my best-friends-to-be had left the school to go to a public elementary school, and that was pretty much the talk of the day. A week later, she came back. I remember when another one of my best-friends-to-be (she later transferred to the local public school too) thought I was Korean. On the first day of school, everyone was telling me the horror stories about our 5th grade teacher, but I must say he's probably one of my favorite teachers. I remember the 2000 elections. I can't remember if it was Oscar or Martin. We sat next to each other. I think it was Oscar. We had taped little cards to our desk in support of Al Gore. Haha. Wow. Then for Open House, Oscar was sick, and when I was writing his namecard in his stead, I accidentally misspelled his last name. I felt so guilty. ._.; Ahh, those were the good days, even though I had to adjust my life... because I think it was from that point on that school became so tiring and stressful. I had to change piano teachers midway through the year because I could no longer balance studying for gigantic vocabulary tests and going to hour-long lessons late during Thursday nights.

I remember asking some silly questions in my first week. I'm not very good at making friends, but I try to make myself fit in. My friend and I transferred to the same school that year, so at least I had someone to hang out with. She already knew people... so it was nice. I actually remember sitting on a bench the summer before (I was part of the school choir then too... and we had an important performance, so we had to stay the first week into summer to practice) and sharing popsicles and apple juice. Those were the days.

I haven't spoken to any of my middle school friends in a while. Some go to the local high school. Others have moved far away. I remember playing my friends' Game Boy and Game Boy Pocket when Pokemon was all the rage. It's funny how my friends introduced me to Pokemon. I was so happy when my mom bought me my Pokemon special edition Game Boy Color and the yellow version. I was actually disappointed that Missing No. wasn't in it, but I would borrow my friends' games and gameboys, get to Cinnabar Island, and use the infinite rare candies and master balls to get all the Pokemon I wanted. I kept on looking for a way to get Mew from some "cheat" by the S.S. Anne dock (or whatever the name of the ship was). I remember my friend Matthew, who I met on Halloween because he was dressed up as a Bulbasaur. We became good friends... XD I remember running around the lot playing Sailor Moon, pretending to be Gundam and Dragon Ball characters. I used to be more outgoing way back when. In kindergarten, I'd compete with this one friend (we were just starting to really "read") to see who would finish our series of mini-books first. I remember being so far ahead of the rest of the class and so proud of finishing my first book with more than 10 words to a page. Cute. XD; I remember nap times. (I actually remember some of the open house performances in preschool. I remember being bullied by 2 guys. I think both of their names were Brian. I remember catching a lizzard. o_o And random clean ups. I remember my old teacher, and my best friends, one of whom I recently Facebook-friended. I remember going to his house and playing this one computer game. I think he was my first crush. Like whoa. o_o I remember being so scared when he had that one asthma attack. Or wait, it was actually that time when the teachers gave him cheese crackers even though he was allergic. It was from that point on that I wanted to become a doctor. Now, I'm kind of too afraid of blood. Haha.) I remember going to McDonalds for one of my birthdays. Woooow. The building was so tall, and there was something about the cake that left an impression on me. I used to love dressing up in random costumes and singing on my toy karaoke machine. I liked stuffed animals too! I remember the wrapping paper of a present I got on my 4th birthday. I remember my old swing set and two family friends that would always come over, even though they lived an hour away. They come over once a year now... *sigh* I remember my grandpa and the old house. I remember watching my second uncle getting married at a Buddhist temple. He and his wife sipped wine from a shoe. Things sure are different.

I remember going to the pumpkin patch every year, and milking this one cow before Halloween! xD And I was a bit sad I never had the chance to go to this one place where all 4th graders went to get rocks and minerals. T_T

I remember washing the tables with everyone, thinking it was the right thing to do, then getting bored and wandering off. When I came back, everyone was on a time-out... and I felt so horrible that I sat in the sand box by myself and put myself on time out. Ahh... I remember breaking my brand new Hello Kitty calculator! I was SO SAD. I remember going down one of those poles for the first time (by the slide). Annnd getting hit in the head really hard by something when I was playing house in the sand box. I remember that one other Chinese person who actually spoke mandarin. I remember this teacher who was Japanese (it never made a big impression on me...) I remember being kicked in the chest and fighting back, even though it was a complete accident. ~_~ I remember when my friend found a double-tailed quarter and was about to use it for coke machine money! Woooh! I remember getting my first kiss on the cheek. It was so weird and nasty. D: My best friend liked me. Ahhh.... and he did it right in front of my mom, and I felt so disgusted that I ran into the bathroom and washed my face with soap. D: I remember running really fast during PE. xP I remember my music teacher and this one time I tried playing the recorder. But it was too lame, so I quit. :x

Haha, I remember the first week of 1st grade. It was kind of strange. My dad always made me do summer homework problems. He taught me double digit addition/subtraction/multiplication/division before we covered any of it in class. I learned basic algebra before junior high, although my understanding of it was kind of messed up. Haha. In those days, he was so strict. One time, I was frustrated with piano, and he was angry at me, so he pushed the chair backwards as I was about to sit down. I started crying. My summers were filled with reading. I loved Nancy Drew books. I read a lot up until high school started. After finishing all 50 some original books, I moved onto other mystery novels and the such. *sigh* My dad made me draw every day during the summer. I'm actually still quite proud of a few drawings I made. Anywho, because of it all, I got to skip the rest of 1st grade. I kind of wish they let me skip 2 grades. I think they were considering it. *sigh*

I miss everyone.

Then back to 5th grade.... wooow. We had to memorize so much! I had to memorize the Gettysburg Address and other random things, but now I wonder why. We'd get quizzed on Christmas songs, because our teacher was the music teacher. By the end of the year, I had memorized all the states and their capitals from doing States and Capitals (punishment?) too often and writing spares that I never used. I remember getting my FIRST A- IN 5TH GRADE. And it was because of Spanish. I still don't think I deserved it. Our principal replaced the original Spanish teacher... and I just disagreed with the way she taught. ~_~ It's not like I ever got anything lower than an A anyways. I remember working with my best friend on the science fair project. It was about making a radio. We didn't win... but we did get the highest score in the class (in terms of grade). I remember losing to my friend's red pill v. blue pill speech when I ran for 5th grade class president. Haha. I never ran again, even though I helped out with the student council.

I remember winning a ton of fish during the Halloween carnivals and helping to set up our version of the Haunted House.

I remember having the hardest math teacher I had ever had in 6th grade (up until I met my current calculus teacher, whom I've had for the last 3 years). She totally nailed us when we didn't show all of our work, but she really understood me. She'd always give us timed multiplication quizzes. Gosh, how fast do you need to be? We had to finish 100 problems in a minute, and I was always around 96. I remember being always fiercely competitive, so I felt like such an idiot when I lost to this one other person in a mini speed competition.

I actually remember my first 6th grade literature project. It had to do with a story about some shoe emporium. Yep. Those were the days. I had a wonderful science teacher too. She'd invite people from JPL over and she encouraged us to watch lunar eclipses and meteor showers. I remember my science fair project. I ended up growing pinto bean plants with my leftover "seeds" after it was over. Too bad they dried up in the summer.

7th grade... you know what? I think my favorite teacher ever was my social studies teacher. She was awesooome. xD Aside from that, I guess I was only majorly disappointed when I received one A- in English... so I ended up having a 3.96 GPA while this one other girl (who I have little respect for)... got a 4.0.

Because that same girl slacked off in her 8th grade year, but because the classes that she got B's in "didn't count for her GPA," I complained. And her mom got all over my case. Wow. Epitome of helicopter mom.

>_>;

Hmmm... in 7th grade, I liked a guy. We'd talk on the phone a lot (when I actually talked on the phone - I think I got my first cell phone that year, even though I never really used it.) I started playing Magic with him and another friend, and we'd go to random concerts every so often with our parents. It was weird because he would send me letters. >_o That time when Yahoo deleted all of my e-mails... I was sad because most of my e-mails were from him. Haha. Then he changed. And boy... what a bad change that was. But still! He's so incredibly smart and eloquent. His commencement speech was on mango nectarine!

I used to go over to friends' houses a lot. I used to go to sleepovers every now and then. Now I do nothing. Seriously, where did my life go?

Ironically, I became closer friends with a junior high friend after high school started. o_o Maybe because he just really got into anime around then.

Haha, I remember drawing Tohru and Kyou and Sakura after school. I remember reading Tenipuri and Tsubasa and Furuba. I remember bringing my manga--the first issue of Shounen Jump--to school on the last day before summer vacation.

I remember the random pool parties... and going to the firefighter's something or another for having the best yellow book, even though I was the only one from our school that didn't win anything. From then on, I think I started to believe I just had really bad luck *coughraffle*

I remember having a lot of friends in younger grades and being teased by the 8th graders. >.<

I remember going to dances, and saying an embarrassing thing... I was only trying to complement this guy's voice and people started laughing - I had no idea about the implications. x_x

I loved Disneyland. I'm still too freaked out to go on Splash Mountain, but I keep the photographs from that day in my special drawer. ^_^ Even though I spent the week prior, feeling depressed because one of my friends felt she wasn't included.

I remember that same friend making a special birthday card for me.

And I remember our 8th grade tea ceremony. XD My friend brought up the time where I accidentally leaned onto the fire alarm in the elevator. x_x *n00b*

Then graduation came and went. *sigh* We had a dance at my friend's house, and some neighbor called the police because it was too noisy. I remember dancing with one of my best friends. Haha, he was so sweet.

Maybe I'll update this entry whenever I think of junior high.

Ironically, I'm always hating the school I'm currently at, but then I look back on my experiences with a lot more nostalgia than I would have expected to.

I guess I wrote this entry to compensate for all the entries I lost after Furuba Forums died. *shrug*

Edit: July 11, 2008

I remember crying when we gave our parents flowers during commencement. I loved Michael's mango nectarine speech, and I was realy proud of my own speech.

I remember going on Thunder Mountain, too, and freaking out because I heard someone died on it. I was the only one who didn't go on it a second time. Fireworks were awesome. My parents came, but I got to hang out with my friends the entire day, and we got to go on a tour bus. It was a cloudy day!

What else?

I had yearly trips.

Yellowstone is such a fantastic place to go. I loved the multi-colored hot springs and the crazy geysers. I liked the Grand Teton National Park, and I think it was Bryce or Zion Canyon, where we had to climb down this winding and rather narrow path, but it was thrilling! I need to go to the Grand Canyon.

I liked going to Vegas with my cousin. I remember having a pretty bad cold that time. x_x I liked going to Disneyland with my cousin too. xD He loves Poker! Haha, I liked Excalibur, and the games~ And winning a Pikachu! I liked Bellagio and the fountain, and the one magic show we went to. Circus Circus was okay...

Although Yosemite and San Francisco were rather boring, getting to see the giant sequoias was interesting! And I met Vincent and Alex.

I loved my trip to the East Coast. Too bad we only could stay a day in Boston. I loved Niagara Falls~ And visiting the NYC Kinokuniya (and also the Pokemon Center! And buying the movie with Latias >o<). Going to Pennsylvania and Washington DC was also exciting. Mmm... infamous theatre and cherry trees... Various memorials too!

I read Uncle Tom's Cabin, thinking my teacher made it a requirement. Turns out it was only a suggestion. I couldn't stand that book.

To Kill a Mockingbird was my favorite book!

I also liked the Phantom Toll Booth, which our math teacher (6th grade homeroom) would occasionally read to us. And the Little Prince was cute.

Best week EVER.

Even though I got a B on my English project.

Dear Angie,

On behalf of the Admissions Committee, it is my pleasure to offer you admission to the MIT Class of 2012. You stood out as one of the most talented and promising students in one of the most competitive applicant pools in the history of the Institute. Your commitment to personal excellence and principled goals has convinced us that you will both contribute to our diverse community and thrive within our academic environment. We think that you and MIT are a great match.

You have until May 1, 2008 to let us know if you’ll call MIT home for the next four years. Until then, we look forward to building our relationship with you and helping you to get to know us better. Over the next several months, we’ll be in touch via phone, email, and web.

Because there’s no better way to get a taste of life at MIT than to spend some time here, I hope very much that you will attend our Campus Preview Weekend (CPW) for admitted freshmen, held on campus from April 10-13, 2008. You’ll attend classes, share meals and conversations with current students, and experience all the ways in which people spend their time and live their passions at MIT. (And most importantly, you’ll get to meet your future classmates!) Look for a new CPW portlet in your MyMIT account in January, which will contain schedule and registration information.

And now for the requisite fine print – I must remind you that this offer of admission is contingent upon your completing the school year with flying colors. (Because you’ve been admitted early, there will be many temptations throughout the rest of the year to keep you from your schoolwork. Please don’t let that happen!)

I hope you’ll agree with us that MIT is the perfect place to prepare for your future. As a member of our community, you’ll join builders, scholars, entrepreneurs, and humanitarians. Together, you will make all the difference in a world that desperately needs you.

Many congratulations, best wishes for a wonderful holiday season, and welcome to MIT! (Now stop reading this and go celebrate. :-)

Sincerely,

Stuart Schmill
Interim Dean of Admissions

Man! Now I have to decide between MIT and Caltech. I LOVE MIT (and its anime club), but Caltech is free (because my mom works at JPL).

I love both. I can't believe I have to choose.

I told all of my teachers to stop writing recommendation letters. I don't care if I get into Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, or Harvey Mudd any more.

*dies*

Today started out horribly, and if you've known me long enough, you know all about my supposed bad luck weeks. Well, the last 2 weeks have pretty much been my bad luck weeks of the quarter.

I slept at 3 AM... because I needed to finish my government project and biology homework... And I woke up at 5 to print things out. It was freezing.

I got to school, and it was like bam bam bam. Everything went wrong! I forgot to sign all of my application recommendation letters.

I didn't get an important thing in my agenda done (to be nameless now...)

Maybe it was because I was too panicked and lightheaded to really think. I expected Caltech decisions to come today...

So I decided to help clean the robotics room, and I stayed until nearly 4:20, when one of my friends dropped me off.

Walking to the door, I was shaking in utter anxiety. D: It was horrible!

Big envelope vs. Small envelope.

Acceptance vs. Rejection.

Now I wonder if I ought to finish my other applications...

Caltech/MIT
Berkeley

W00T. I proved that guy standing next to Steve Wozniak at FIRST Nationals wrong. (Talk about being uber discouraged that time!)

Edit: It's a miracle! Facebook removed the "is!"

My friend's yearbook comment turned my day around. ^_^b It's nice to have role models. Once upon a time, I couldn't help but feel something more than friendship, but friendship it will remain.

Dear Angie,

I don't know if I've told you this before, but I have always considered you as my little sister. You are gifted beyond belief, and you're so nice!
Good luck with next year. Your class needs character! Class of '08 is so dang boring. Make it better!!!

<3 'dawww I can't help but believe that's the most thoughtful comment I've ever gotten. >o<

Wherever you go, I know you'll be great. *sigh* I wish I had gotten to know him sooner~ But robotics these passed 2 years were incredible and I loved working with him. Good luck @ Berkeley!

That and my calc test ended horribly. D: *sigh* I LOVE YOU SENIORS.

I still owe him for giving me so many birthday photos for Christmas. n_n

Home Sweet Home

The Virginia Tech Massacre was totally unexpected news. 33 people died. It was the worst school shooting in US history. It's terrifying and sad.

Anyways, we came back with new knowledge of robotics nationals. Everything's different in Atlanta. It was windy, and tornedo warnings were in effect for most of our stay.

I had a difficult chemistry quiz last Wednesday, so I had to miss the "pep rally."

Dallas airport was huge, and the monorail was fun to ride.

Thursday, I felt our team was only half attempting anything, but we went out and had Benihana's for dinner.

On Friday, everything went wrong. Our robot just wasn't robust enough, and rules in Atlanta were different than rules in San Diego and Los Angeles.

So we didn't make it into division quarter finals, even though I think our robot was good enough.

We had dinner at Hard Rock Cafe.

One of my friends managed to get media passes since he was the photographer for the school's newspaper, and he was able to ask people for autographs. I had already gotten the autographs of Steve Wozniak (co-founder of Apple)and Woodie Flowers (MIT professor and FIRST game designer). Then my friend got autographs of Mark Leon (NASA/JPL researcher that spends time in Antarctica), Dean Kamen (founder of FIRST/creater of the Segway), Chad Hurley (co-founder of Youtube), and I *think* the current president of DARPA. Mark Leon (who's been at every regional we've attended this year) addressed my friend in his autograph, because he thought my book was his. xD

We played tennis... and had Southern food. =x It tasted really weird. Ahh! Then our first flight was delayed a lot, and I just arrived home/went to Fry's. xD

Spring break for the rest of this week. Agenda:

Pick up Korean Music Festival tickets, reschedule ACT, renew Shonen Jump, make up homework/tests, study for ACT, study for AP tests...

No Internet = bad. @_@ Waah~ Hilton was charging $13 a night. I tried Internet on a friend's laptop, with a better network card, but my conversation with my cousin kept on disconnecting like every 10 seconds.

Then in Atlanta, I saw FIRST Lego League teams from South Korea, China, Hong Kong, and Japan. xD; I spoke in Mandarin to some of the Chinese teams.

Ohhh! And we went to the Aquarium, the largest in the world. But it didn't seem that big. o_O Beluga whales and sharks~

http://animenewsnetwork.com/news/2007-04-10/oricon-no.1-manga-mag-for-japanese-girls-is-cite-shonen-jump/cite Ironic that Ribon isn't mentioned. D: Or that other one from Kodansha whose name I've long forgotten.

http://www.myspace.com/jrrevolution Even though I don't really like Jrock... I know of Miyavi, X Japan (Forever Love), and random others? LA = yay!

http://animenewsnetwork.com/news/2007-04-13/soprano-sarah-brightman-sings-10th-pokemon-movie-theme Sarah Brightman is awesome. xD Andrew Lloyd Webber songs with her voice = *o* And I read she was on Kohaku before. I didn't know she was that popular in Japan.

I love Disneyland.

  • Apr. 8th, 2007 at 1:07 PM

So, my cousin has probably already landed in Melbourne. I hope he can visit again soon, or maybe we can go to Japan together. xD (which probably means I'll have to delay my trip until after Summer '08 o_o) My piano recital was... decent... I kind of fell asleep and got passed my normal difficulties but made mistakes on two of the parts I was best versed in (that kind of sucks).

Disneyland was terrific! I couldn't be sure if there'd be a lot of people or not. It was a holiday weekend, but I think most people tend to stay at home on Holy Saturday, right?

Anyways, we got to my cousin's hotel at 6:40, and arrived at Disneyland around 7:30-40. Luckily, at that time, ticket lines weren't very long, and we were able to buy tickets as his parents waited in line at the gate. For the first 2 hours, there were few people, so we were able to get through all of the "most important" rides. xD Every time I go to Disneyland, I have to hit those rides, but with limited time and holiday traffic, I wasn't sure if it was possible. We went on the Matterhorn Bobsleds (which kind of scared his mom), it's a small world, the Alice in Wonderland tea cups, and Indiana Jones. I don't know why Toontown was closed early on, although I remember it happening before.

Then we went to Tomorrowland, got a fastpass ticket for Autopia, went on that Star Tours simulation, and saw the Honey, I Shrunk the Audience show.

I believe our last two rides were Thunder Mountain and the new Buzz Light Year Astro Blasters ride, which was surprisingly fun! Video game-like ride with shooting down evil people with targets. I didn't get the hang of it until later. XDD;;; My cousin got some 70,000 points, but I only got 13,000 some.

Then we saw a bit of the Parade of Dreams, before having to leave at 4. He had to make it in time for plane check-in and I had my recital. @_@

I wanted to buy my own ticket, but his parents just kept on handing me the money back. D: And I really wanted to buy something for him. Ya know? Memorabilia! In '05 Christmas, my other cousin bought Mickey Mouse gloves, but he actually comes and visits now, like every 2 years (and I think we might be visiting sometimes soon.) So instead, I opted to ask him to choose a hat at the Mad Hatter, and I bought 2 of those. XD; Duude! His face is like perfect for a Goofy Hat.

I just wish I wasn't so sick. ._.;; It always happens that I get to talk more towards the end of our trip. I cried a little last night. He made my otherwise pathetic week fun. And I have no regrets for skipping the robotics car wash.

Ever since he saw "Miki" on his buddy list... he's been calling me that. D: Anouuu.... Angie is better for close friends and relatives, desu!

Anyways, off to catching up on homework! Happy Easter you fellow rabbits!

Feeling Lonely Again

  • Apr. 3rd, 2007 at 10:32 PM

It's seldom that I have the opportunity to meet up with my various cousins from around the world. As of today, I have 3 close cousins. My cousin from Boston, whom I have known the longest, has been like a best friend and big brother. He was probably the single person I respected the most. Every time I was around him, I always felt happy. He made life fun and interesting, and always treated me like a younger sister.

He's graduating from university this year. I, sadly, won't be able to attend his graduation because it's in the middle of AP's, SAT's, and STAR testing.

I feel like my year is ruining me.

Within this last week, I've also come to greatly admire and respect my cousin from Australia. I found out today that he's actually quite the distant cousin. He's the grandchild of my grandma's cousin. What nth cousin does that make him? As I've mentioned before, he's incredible at piano, and I've never heard anyone of his age compare to such genius. He has such an innate talent, but rather than continuing education in music, he's changing schools to focus more on real world finance. It's sad to see him consider piano of secondary interest, because I seriously believe he is just that great at it. That also means it'll be less likely for him to come to the States again, because he came last year, and was originally going to come this year, for major piano competitions.

He's going to Las Vegas tomorrow. Tonight was basically the last night I'd see him in real life, probably for many years to come. I regret agreeing to perform at my teacher's piano recital and going to Atlanta, because I'm missing the opportunity I've wanted so much to go to Disneyland. At this point, I think that going to Disneyland with my cousin will be more meaningful than going with all of my robotics friends, and you all know how crazy I've been about wanting to go with them. In many regards, I've felt that I've lost touch with my robotics friends since San Diego. Maybe the fact that the person I liked only looked at me as only a relatively close friend hurt too much. However, family's always family and they're irreplaceable. Sure people have arguments, but no matter what, family will always be a part of our lives.

My cousin and his parents decided spontaneously (I had encouraged him to go to Disneyland instead of Universal Studios) to go to Disneyland the Saturday of their flight back to Australia, which meant beating holiday traffic. Simply put, it'll be difficult for them to enjoy their time because of Easter weekend, but I wish I could've tagged along anyway. I love going to Disneyland with people I admire and care about. It's just such a fantastic place to be able to share memories.

I'll miss him and the memories I have of our two dinners. They were fun; quiet but fun and cute. xD I wish I could recollect more from 6 years passed.

One day, my cousin from Boston, my Australian cousin, and I are all going to go to Disneyland together. That's my goal within the next 5 years. ^^

They're special people.

Regret

I have the most difficult time articulating my thoughts to people I haven't met before or haven't seen for several months or more. It's tortuous in the sense that, as a direct result, I make less friends, and well, I waste half my time with them feeling shy and nervous about talking. This is a totally different side of me than what is seen through fandoms.

Remember my Disneyland post with my Bostonian cousin? This entry's somewhat like that. I have a distant cousin. I'm not actually sure what our real relationship is. For the longest time, I thought we were second cousins (those second, third, etc. relationships confuse me to death), but all my mom really knows (he's a cousin from my dad's side) is that we're distant cousins, and things get blurry, because I *think* my grandma (who is my cousin's aunt, or so I think) is adopted. So much for family history.

Anyways, I last saw him 6 years ago. He's from Australia, and probably has a totally radical Aussie accent. XD <3 Actually, I couldn't picture his face today. All I remembered distinctly from before was that he asked me to say something in my American English so that he could compare it with his Australian accent. Let it be known that, even then, he was seriously the best pianist of his age that I had known. I also remembered him being funny and constant car rides. I remember that he stayed at our house, and according to him, we played Super Mario World and went to Disneyland. I really wish I could recall all those memories and document them, simply because memories are precious things.

6 years later. He's grown taller. He has the stereotypical teenage Asian male hair cut, which I think looks totally awesome by the way. xD He's practically good enough to turn pro at piano, in my sincerest opinion. It's somewhat of a pity that he's not going to pursue it. Imagine playing 4 songs for 45 minutes straight for competition, and practicing 6 hours a day prior to it! Just another cousin that I could totally say I'm proud to have? (I'm 9 months older than him.) And his hands :o You can totally tell when one's a pianist by the person's hands. My finger length to hand size ratio is pretty large, but his fingers are just so nimble. I mean~ they've been practically molded to play the piano, and he places so furiously that it can actually be somewhat a blur to see his fingers moving so quickly. O_O

Unfortunately, I didn't really talk to him for the majority of the day. That's just the way I am. That's why parties are never fun until the last 1-2 hours. *shrug* We ended up playing Wii Sports and Wii Play. For someone who's never played them before, he's really good. O_O

Luckily, I got his screen name before he left, and next Friday, before he goes back to Australia, I think we're all going to have dinner again. He likes Japanese food and anime. His mom loves Korean dramas. XD And we had a lovely MSN conversation last night, until passed 12 (he just came from NY today, so it would've been about 3 AM for him x_x)

So now I have 2 cool cousins. Strange thing is~ I can really remember my Boston cousin from when I was 8, but meeting my Australian cousin has always been kind of fuzzy, and I was 10 when I saw him. Maybe because I don't have any pictures. *shrug* But they're both wonderful~~ Nya nya nya.

Fundraising? We made maybe $200? =x Ettoo.... Then I had piano lessons because I've got a recital next week. Going to fail. Started crying. I just haven't been practicing and going to lessons enough to perform well at all.

The Second Best Day of My Life

  • Mar. 26th, 2006 at 12:22 PM

The first was that night to Disneyland with my cousin over winter break. ^_^ <3

So, we didn't win. Yesterday, we won the "Radio Shack Innovation in Control" award, because we did a good job with presenting ourselves to the robot. It's also the award that, essentially, most corresponds to what I do on the team. >:3 Prograaamming~ I learned a bit over the course of the 3 days of practice + competition. I've always been better at modifying code than actually writing it. Well, I'm happy for my senior programming mentor/friend. I really have come to look up to him as a role model to follow over the course of this weekend. Regardless of what other people say, he's a genius in my book. =P

We did so much better in LA than in Arizona. Even if we only moved up by 4 ranks and weren't chosen for the finals, let's just say, for once, it wasn't because our robot had issues. In Arizona, we were gifted with wonderful other alliance members, although we had a "weak" bot. In LA, when we finally overcame all of our robot issues, we ended up getting alliance teams that, at one point, didn't show up for the game. Well, it's the luck of the draw.

Aside from that, I made a new friend from a rookie school. He's in 7th grade, but he's cool nonetheless. =P

Why this is the second best day of my life?

After the regional, a couple of juniors (including teh uber Neko and all of his friends), the incredible AutoCAD specialist (senior), the uber l33t programming genius (senior), and two of us rookies went to Universal City Walk. Everyone seemed sad. I guess, especially for the seniors, they thought it'd be "their year" to shine. I feel horrible for them. Well, our car arrived late, and everyone else was eating. As I'm a slow eater in public, everyone ended up crowding around me and one guy started taking pictures of me eating with everyone in the background. *rofl* It was an "unofficial" after regional party. Then, I went around, running through the fountain and getting soaked, just as it was starting to drizzle. (I went crazy.) Well, it was the 2nd best moment of my life just because I really got to know people better and they were having fun regardless of what happened. *glomps*

About Me

Some people know me as Mi-kitty or Sa-chan. I'm a 17 18-year-old college freshman, aspiring to obtain a degree in electrical engineering (I haven't actually declared my major yet) at a certain Institute of Technology. Unlike your typical American teenager, I don’t have a driver’s license. Therefore, I am a n00b, but I like to consider myself at least somewhat 1337. You might say I’m a perfectionist, and while I might display a few symptoms of OCD, I have never been able to maintain a clean room for longer than a week. Most often, the floor is covered so thoroughly in books, papers, and other junk that I have difficulty walking around.

Sometimes, I think of myself as a computer hermit. If I’m not at school or out of town, I’m usually sitting in front of my computer chatting, coding, reading manga, or watching Youtube videos. To someone who doesn’t know me (or doesn’t know my Internet persona), I appear to be quiet and shy. However, I also love to rant and ramble about the most random of things, so try not to catch me in one of my rants if you don’t like to be bothered. I use this journal to post my feelings about fandom, classes, and the more than occasional personal issues with which I find myself. My entries are mostly public, but if you would like to friend me, please comment.

Yes, well, I’m just your average obsessive fangirl. I love collecting a wide variety of things, from trading cards, coins, stamps, and minerals to autographs, ticket stubs, and other memorabilia. I’m a Livejournal addict, but I absolutely detest MySpace (and I’ve grown out of Facebook somewhat as well). I think science and technology are two very fascinating fields. Physics and chemistry have always been my favorite high school classes, and I hope to take some astronomy classes in college. In high school, I participated in FIRST Robotics. I think the experience is life changing. I like to code (mostly for my websites, but I’ve dabbled in a few other programming languages), and I like to make graphics.

Although I’m quite sports-challenged, that has not prevented me from obsessing about tennis and the greatness that is Roger Federer. I also like music. Besides your typical Asian pop (Wang Lee Hom, Guang Liang, TVXQ, and JE groups like Takki & Tsubasa and Ya-Ya-yah come to mind), I also enjoy listening to pre-contemporary music. My favorite composers are Rachmaninoff, Liszt, Debussy, Bach, and Chopin. This is probably because I’ve been playing the piano since I was 5. I sing, and I love Broadway musicals and classic American films (think Roman Holiday and Fred Astaire). I grew up watching old sitcoms.

In terms of fandom, I’ve been obsessed with Asian dramas lately. I start watching a series at night and finish at dawn. My favorites include Last Christmas, Nodame Cantabile, My Lovely Sam Soon, and Huan Zhu Ge Ge. I think Lee Junki is gorgeous. The first anime I watched was Sailor Moon (or Speed Racer), and ever since, I’ve been interested in Asian culture (Yes, I’m Asian). I visited Japan for the first time this year, and I hope to be back soon! I like milk tea boba (bubble tea) more than the average American likes coffee. I also like soup, but I’m open to soups from different cuisines.

Although I can’t say I’m an avid reader, I do like to read books that portray strong female characters. I loved Nancy Drew as a child. Pride and Prejudice, To Kill a Mockingbird, and a particular biography of Audrey Hepburn are among my current favorites. I like reading autobiographies and even the occasional history book, when they’re written well, of course. In middle school, I spent hours at a time reading books from the Dear America series. I typically enjoy mystery novels, fantasy stories (once upon a time, I fell in love with Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time), and romance comedies the most, although my taste is more varied when it comes to manga (I like reading josei, shounen, and shoujo manga with a hint of shounen-ai).

I used to love watching Madeline, and I still enjoy watching the occasional Sabrina reruns. However, lately, I’ve become addicted to reality TV shows.

All in all, I'm pretty old school, I think hanging out with guys and playing Smash Brothers and Legend of Zelda (if only I had a Playstation, so I could play Final Fantasy!) is fun, and if all else fails, I think I’ll find a job as a tea taster or a sushi chef.
